I am thrilled to announce that I am a taphophile.
Never heard of such a thing? Neither had I until recently.
Beyond being a lover of words, I am also a lover of the origin of words. So, with fingers crossed, I Googled "what is someone called who loves cemeteries" hoping that such a word exists. And, to my delight, it does.
The term "taphophile" comes from the Greek word "tapho" (graves) and "phile" (lover). That would definitely be me.
In honor of, and leading up to, Halloween and Day of the Dead, my newsletters for the next two months will focus on lessons I have learned visiting cemeteries. We'll explore tender stories, noble legacies, unusual memorials, and the downright weird in cemeteries in and around Utah.
Come join me to discover treasures in these installments of "Tales from the Crypt."Â
